Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are teaming up with a charity that provides free meals around the world.
The couple Harry and Meghan Markle announced that the first philanthropic project of their “Archewell” foundation will be to fund four community relief centers for “World Central Kitchen”, an organization led by chef José Andrès that provides meals in the wake of natural disasters.
The four buildings will be permanent structures designed to be opened quickly in the event of an emergency and can also serve as schools, clinics or community centers if needed.
“The health of our communities depends on our ability to connect with our common humanity. When we think of Chef Andrès and his incredible team at World Central Kitchen, it reminds us that, even during a year of unimaginable hardship, there are so many amazing people who are ready – and working tirelessly – to support each other. each other. World Central Kitchen inspires us with compassion in action, ”the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said in a statement.
Jose Andrès is delighted to have the couple Harry and Meghan Markle on board to help his project.
“We believe in the healing power of food, and we like to say that wherever there is a struggle for hungry people to eat, we will be there,” he said. I got to know them both well, and I believe their values are directly aligned with what we stand for at World Central Kitchen. ”
Each of the centers will be located in areas “disproportionately affected by hunger and food system challenges”.
The first will be built on the Caribbean island of Dominica and is expected to open early next year. The second will be in Puerto Rico, with the location of the other two venues not yet announced.
While it has not been revealed how much Prince Harry and Megan Markle will make available to these centers, World Central Kitchen CEO Nate Mook told Bloomberg that each of them will require an upfront investment of at least $ 50,000 to start.
The organization has distributed 50 million meals in 17 countries since its launch in 2010.
